    Well this isn't really about how to wipe your drive, it's to do with people reporting to the police.
    Personally I find it astonishing that someone would even consider going to the police because they knew somebody had downloaded one or two music albums or whatever. It's like going to the police and reporting somebody for swearing. I've never heard of such a thing, and I'm sure that where I live all the police would do is file the report and forget it.

    Actually, I was replying to the other posters saying you need to reformat 7 times blah blah and do this blah blah. Why couldn't they just get a magnet and wipe their drives like that?

    It might work. Personally I think that reformatting 7 times stuff is nonsense tho'.

    first, putting it all in an easily deletable place wont do anything. They can recover it. If you were about to get busted throw your hdd in a pool or run a magnet across it. Second you shouldnt get caught for downloading, its uploading they look for.

    There really isn't much to worry about the guys who have had massive fines are from places like kazza or limewire and they way they calculate their fines are on how many people you uploaded it to, rapidshare is a much safer way of doing it as only people you wan to download it can i.e. people on this site,
    Obv the police or any anti piracy inititives can use this site but 1) this i based in hong kong if memory servers me right no piricay laws 2) all they can do with the files on the host is alert the host to take it down, hence all the re ups you have to do
    due to the data protection act (UK) it is very difficult to request the personal details from rapidshare, then paypal

    also a friend of the family who was selling dvds had his entire collection of dvd's both real and pirated and his computer seized after a week all was returned except the pirated dvds but they left all the files on his pc alone and gave him a smack on he wrist

    so dont worry to much

    we walk and talk freely about it
    every net caffe has warez items...if it is from warez-bb or any other site
    i guess that can never happen here
    but who knows

    i for one have literally gbs and gbs of data and at least 20/ 30 cds and 15-25 dvds with ~love~ on it (warez gamez etc) and it's pretty hard to hid from parents, especially dad. but if i got busted or whatev then how could i hid the evidence with so many cds
    and i have craked steam so uber hard to erase with so mauch stuff
    and yes i have accidentally told people and some threatened but you know i just say bs
