Long times ago people had no technology. More hard work in the fields, fishing, blacksmithing, etc and no offices and such as nowadays. In certain aspects the technology has 'advanced' but with it lots of bad things came through. In the past, wars were fought with swords, then guns were invented which caused even more deaths in wars (it still causes death, wars and crimes, etc). Then bombs, Atomic bombs were invented which killed millions of people and caused lots of deformation, not to mention the huge amount of damage it does to nature.

Also thieves are using lots of new technology, but cops are also using new technology. So I don't know... has technology gone forwards, or backwards?

Swords are more lethal than guns, they rarely leave wounded opponents. Huge wars are not even possible with advanced technology, it's all down to small and fast tactical strikes.
Nukes killed 140000, not millions. And they seem to be pretty effective in actually stopping wars.
I'm more afraid of a criminal with a knife than one with some high tech junk.

    Go technology!

A bullet can fire at 2000/mps. You think you can strike with a sword faster then that and cut the bullet in half?
Anyway, while technology may be used for bad things, I think it's doing greater good. It's making peoples lives easier and allowing us to perform things that would require 10X as much work or effort with the flip of a switch.

Wartime technology is just a side effect. Technology just gets caught up in it.

Technology is moving forward and soon it will be more than what we can control. We'll probably end up killing ourselves.

It's moving Forward but in the wrong direction, we should be where we are now but without all the pollution that technology has caused along the way.

Somewhere in our history there must have been a fork in the road or a different path we could have taken.

For example, oil was not meant to be burnt to create pollution. There are so many things we do that are wrong but we still call it progress. Why?

Our user technology is advanced with electronics & computers etc, but the hardware that lies beneath to power it all is stone age technology & un-sustainable.

We burn coal, we split atoms and create nuclear waste which we dump in oceans or bury in the ground, we burn carbon fuels releasing Co2 by the Tons.

We sit in our latest model cars, we sit in front of our brand new computers and we think we are so smart. But we are Dumb, boy are we Dumb.

The sun has been sitting up there for eons just waiting to provide us with all the clean free energy we need but we have left it too late. In the past as well as now there has and still is always an excuse to why we cannot use the suns energy efficiently, but hey, we put a Man on the Moon in the 60's and look how far we have come since then. But in truth when you look at the state of our planet, we have gone nowhere.

We create so much waste to have all this technology that we take for granted these days and we bury most of this waste or just throw it away.

But the simple fact is that you cannot throw anything away on planet earth!
Where are you throwing it away to? No where because it is still here no matter where you dispose of it.

Even if you bury it 1000 miles underground it is still here.
We certainly are a blind Dumb ignorant messed up species.

Fact of the matter is if we can do it faster and more cheaply people will always go for oil and coal rather than choose solar and wind energy. Time is money so if you could produce more energy in a year burning oil then spinning a turbine, then the person is not going to care about the environment but about how many bills go into their pocket and how quickly they can do it.
