    Ok, so thinking of making a program to search the lan for games, look for open server ports. I think i should be able to use winsock for this, the main thing is i dont know how to set up an ip range array

    Help would be appreciated in either python, c++, vb.net, c#, c++ preferably.

    well thats a port scanner, and whilst its true thats exactly what i want to do. Id prefer not to have one on my laptop, as its for school, and i have near unlimited privileges with unlimited download/upload, and id prefer not to draw anymore attention to my laptop than necessary. Also, theres the GUI, id like something idiot proof that other students could use to search for active games.

    why don't u just use nmap?
