my brother made a mistake while managing the partitions of his netbook. During something he did, the bootmgr was removed (that's all I could find out anyway). His backup partition is gone too.

The problem for me is that it doesn't have a cd/dvd drive, so you can only use USB devices. I've extracted my Windows 7 iso to a USB device, but it won't load (it's a different version, ultimate vs home premium) but I didn't think that would matter. It gives the same error. When I insert an extracted recovery/repair iso, it tells me no bootable partition is found in the table.

I have no idea what to do next

I can access the bios setup, but that's about all I can do.

    any ideas?

    1. Download the attached file [BOOT.zip]
    2. Create bootable USB drive
    3. Copy the extracted BOOT folder into the USB drive
    4. Copy bootrec.exe file from SuperGrub Live CD [Create a ISO image into your hard drive and copy it in the BOOT folder which should be in the USB drive]
    5. Boot it from the USB drive [I hope the BIOS is compatible to boot from an USB drive]
    6. Copy the bootmgr file from the usb drive. I am not really sure what the drive letter is going to be. I assume it is going to be X:\ SO go into the X drive and list the files find the "BOOT" folder
    7. bootrec.exe /fixmbr
X:\BOOT\bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force [u might need to change the drive letter and the folder root]
    8. del C:\boot\bcd
    bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    9. shutdown -r -t 0

    Boot.zip
